19th Century Cut-Throat Razor

A 19th century cut-throat razor by maker George Johnson of Sheffield (active 1810-1855), and which probably dates to circa 1850. History-listed premises in 1815 Furnival St, Sheffield, then Tudor St. late 1820's and by 1837 and for the subsequent fourty years at 13 Porter St. Sheffield. Johnson also specialised in the manufacture of pen knives, table knives and also medical lancets. This particular example is possibly one of the finest examples of Johnson's work. The scales are of pressed horn and document a poachers day in pictorial and word form. The blade has the motto ' A game keepers tormentor'. The spine of the blade has superb quality file work and bears a monogram initial (possibly the owners). It is in excellent condition . This is an outstanding example of a Sheffield produced blade by a manufacturer at the top of his trade. Very rare example!
