Cast Bronze Skillet
Circa 1700.
A Cast Bronze Skillet.
History
CIRCA 1700 a good large size "Cast Bronze Skillet". This skillet probably dates from between the late 16th to early 17th century.
Vessels such as this would have been placed directly into the ashes of an open fire to cook broths or stews. Cast on the "Reeded Handle" is EC4 (Foundary owners initials and post size denomination). The polished interior contrasts well with the dark irridencent exterior - possibly Irish!
