Circa 1890 Alter crucifix

An Alter crucifix from the northern France region which dates to circa 1890.
History - This particular crucifix was recovered from a small French chapel that was close to where the BATTLE OF THE SOMME was fought and which took place from the 1st of July 1916 and ended on the 18th of November 1916. The chapel due to the Hostilities that occured in the region was bombed and became damaged beyond repair. This crucifix was recovered from the ruined remains of this chapel.
The 20 inches tall crucifix is supported of an ebonised stepped and moulded base with traces of GILT PAINTED DECORATION which is still visible. The cross bears the Figure of a nicely detailed cast brass corpus.
A Genuine WW1 related Religious  relic with an intriguing connection.
