Pressed Horn Snuff Box
Dated:
18th Century - about 1750.
History:
A good large size pressed horn snuff box. The attractive lattice repeat pattern would be produced by boiling the horn until plyable. Then using a forming mould the design would be given to the horn which would be pressed into shape.
Wear to the base suggests this was used as a table snuff in a tavern or tea room/coffee house, or some other sociable occasion. Quite rare!
PS: some age related faults, good colour patina, lid fits fairly well.
