Prisoner of War Straw Work Box
An excellent Napoleonic Prisoner of War Straw work box. Boxes of this type were made from easily sourced materials such as wood straw & sometimes Bone. Some Prisoners even knew how to incorperate NATURAL DYES as is shown in this example.
With this box been simply made the intricacy in the straw detailing is fantastic seeing as the box was made under Prisoner conditions. Examples like this one are hard to find in any given condition due to the delicate materials being lost over time. This can sometimes make the original details hard to Decipher, Whereas in this example the BOAT & RIVER SCENE as well as the vine detailing over the whole of the box can still be easily seen.
A brilliant piece of NAPOLEONIC WAR HISTORY that is a rare survivor.
